ShopperTrak commentary for w/c 16th January

Change for week 3 (16th January 2017 – 22nd January 2017): 0.4%
Change for week 3 Year-on-Year: 1.4%

Commentary

The ShopperTrak National Retail Index is reporting an increase Week-on-Week of 3.0% and a decrease of -2.5% Year-on-Year.  The weekend showed a decrease of -4.5% Year-on-Year, while the Year-to-Date trend reports -2.4% compared to the previous week. Furthermore, the figure recorded is worse than last year, -1.4%.

Only 2 regions realised a Year-on-Year increase; Northern Ireland, of 6.2% and Yorkshire-Humber, of 0.9%. The region to see the highest decrease of -7.0% was the East Midlands, followed by the North East region, of -4.7%. The region to realise the lowest decrease on the year was the South East Region, at -1.4%.

Only Yorkshire-Humber and East Midlands saw a Week-on-Week decrease, with – and -2.3% respectively. The region to realise the highest increase was the North East region, of 17.3%, with the South East following at 7.8%. The region to see the lowest Week-on-Week increase was Scotland, 0.7%.

Within Retail Parks, the ShopperTrak Index reported an increase of 1.4% in Year-on-Year footfall and an increase of 0.4% on the week. The weekend showed an increase of 0.6%.
